Let’s Talk About TikTok

Ok folks, let’s talk about arts organizations on TikTok. In the past few months, I’ve noticed more and more establishing a presence and totally rocking it!

I’ve been in the industry for the advent of nearly all the major social media platforms (and some not so major, and even more now-defunct) and I think that TikTok has the most distinctive style and voice right from the very start. There is no potential to simply repeat content from other channels here — TikTok content must be created specifically for use on the platform.

Some of my favorite accounts at the moment are:

@royaloperahouse
@museumofneonart
@uffizigalleries
@metmuseum
@carnegiemnh
@thewarholmuseum
@taftmuseum
@speedartmuseum
@childrensmuseum

There are also a ton of artists leveraging the platform to showcase the behind-the-scenes workings of creating art. The ballet world seems to be particularly active and I’m loving dancers such as @isabellaboylston and @tilerpeck.

I know many more organizations and artists doing great things on TikTok, so let’s crowdsource a list of them all! I’ve created a simple Google Sheet where anyone can add the handle of an organization or artist — this can be yours or others that you follow and want to share. If you manage your org’s TikTok, there’s a column for your contact information if it is ok for others to reach out with questions or to brainstorm.

I’m excited to see the list we create!
